Come See our Baby Alligators! |
CSTL has recently adopted two baby alligators. The
alligators are just four weeks old, measure 6 inches from nose to tail,
and have taken up residence within our Amazing Animals exhibit depicting
the Mississippi swamp. The two baby gators are now inside their
enclosure where our former 4.5 foot alligator, Alli, was housed.
We are Growing a Sustainable Green House
|
CSTL-Tanglewood
is in the process of raising funds to construct a sustainable
greenhouse. Sustainable greenhouses are where foods are grown with 100%
natural means and include ideas such using the heat exhausted from
composting to grow food in winter. The greenhouse will give CSTL an
opportunity to engage thousands of people about how to build your own
greenhouse inexpensively, how to grow vegetables and even tilapia (fish)
year round, and how his kind of "farming" can save you money and energy.
Show your support for this project by making a $1 donation today or
seeing if your employer would be interested in offering a grant.
Participate and be involved any way you can.
Interns from East Rockaway H.S. Research
Sustainable Farming |
Jaqueline
and Amanda from East Rockaway High School are researching compost. The
teen interns are contributing to CSTL's Sustainable Greenhouse project
where, once constructed, the full-scale green house will educated people
about sustainable farming and how people can inexpensively grow food
year-round in their own back yards. Jaqueline has been accepted to study
Environmental Science at Eastern Connecticut University. Amanda has
applied to study environmental science at Queens College, Hunter, and
Delhi University.
The
Kappa-Sigma Fraternity from Adelphi University shows the strength of
their brotherhood. It is always wonderful when people perform random
acts of kindness and The Kappa-Sigma brothers are a shinning example of
this after they spent a day of removing trash from all corners of the
preserve.

Volunteering with Success |

A group
of freshmen girls from Malverne High School share the idea that
volunteering is a great way to build up real-world skills. Shown left to
right, Danée wants to be a doctor, Shannon a veterinarian, Siera in a
career that supports people with special needs, and Deasia is determined
to be a medical lawyer and sees volunteering as a great way to grow her
clerical and organizational skills. The girls volunteer each week
conducting research, data entry, and animal husbandry.
Exhibit Hall Capital Campaign Continues |
CSTL
is seeking major donors and philanthropists that want to see the
addition of an interactive natural history exhibit hall to our existing
facility. The facility will feature major exhibits in life-science,
paleontology, geology, and others. Help us move forward with this
initiative by sharing this idea with others. Major naming and branding
opportunities are possible.

Watch video of Vincent and
Chris prepare Alli for his trip to Florida. Vincent and Chris have been
volunteering for 1 year so far. Vincent goes to Keary H.S. and Chris
attends Malverne H.S. Both of them are considering careers in science
and/or zoology. | | | |

Watch video of Alli's
release into his new home in Florida. After a 16 hour drive down to
Florida we were exhausted and Alli was ready to get into the water and
socialize with other gators his size. | | |
